financial support for disabled students

Students studying on Higher Education courses can apply for the Disabled Students'Allowance, this is not means tested and can be used for : specialist equipment; a non-medical helper's allowance; help towards additional travelling costs to your institution or as a general allowance. The DSA is available for postgraduate and undergraduate courses and does not have to be paid back. As a disabled student you will be in one of the priority groups for the Access to Learning Fund, this is for students who run into financial trouble on their H.E. course.

If your local institution does not provide the help you need , the LSC may consider funding a place at a specialist college, refer to your Disability Employment Advisor.

If you prefer to study at home there are many distance learning providers, notably the Open University . which has specialist disability advisors.

Your college or university may refer you to the National Network of Assessment Centres, you can be assessed to find out which support equipment would be best for you.
